Glenn Wallis, Ph.D. (Harvard University), is the director of the Center. He is a specialist in Indian Buddhism with expertise in meditation theory and technique, Buddhist canonical literature, Buddhist psychology, and ritual studies. Dr. Wallis has taught in the religion departments of several universities, including the University of Georgia, Brown University, Bowdoin College, and the Rhode Island School of Design. He began formal Buddhist practice in 1975, and subsequently received training in several forms of Buddhist meditation, including Vipassana, Soto Zen, Dzogchen, and traditional Theravada. Dr. Wallis is the author of three books: The Dhammapada: Verses on the Way (New York: Random House, Modern Library, 2004), Mediating the Power of Buddhas (Albany: State University of New York Press, Buddhist Studies Series, 2002), and Basic Teachings of the Buddha (New York: Random House, Modern Library, 2007), and has published several articles and reviews on various aspects of Buddhism in leading scholarly journals.
